Millwall Football Club deployed TeamCard to fans for the first time in 2002, issuing season ticket cards, club loyalty and a compulsory membership and ID scheme to Lions supporters. The TeamCard scheme was originally adopted to manage the disruptive element of their support by restricting entry to approved fans only. This resulted in an improved image with the football authorities and spelled the end of hooliganism at the Den stadium.
After years of success – and safety – with the system, at the start of the 2009 season Millwall made the progressive move to TeamCard’s latest innovation, introducing BTED access control at the Den. The upgrade to the barcode based technology shows not only confidence in a long standing relationship, but a shrewd move to a cost-effective product that not only rivals but exceeds the more expensive, contactless smart card systems.
Millwall fans continue to reap the benefits of the TeamCard loyalty proposition, engaging regularly with the TeamCard retail website to lower the cost of their support. With the club’s continued support of the scheme, web registrations for Millwall supporters increased by close to 50% with the fulfilment of 2009/10 season cards.
"Millwall FC has worked with TeamCard since 2002 with great success. The new season is bringing even more functionality from TeamCard as we move up to their new access product which will take our stadium security and fan experience to a whole new level. TeamCard's robust technology and excellent service continue to help the club move progressively forward."
