Bolton Wanderers FC was the first football club in the world to introduce multifunctional Smartcard technology to their fans. The 'Bolton Wanderers TeamCard' offered fans a fast entry process, security, an advanced ticket media in a smart card which replaced the old season ticketholder booklets.

After 8 years of successful use with the original technology, in 2009 Bolton is once more leading the pack as an early adopter of the new TeamCard BTED (barcode) solution. Like other clubs around the country, Bolton Wanderers have moved to the next generation in stadium access, offering fast, simple and contactless entry at a dramatically reduced cost. BWFC’s IT director Dave Atkinson was quoted as saying Our TeamCard has changed to the barcode system from the chip and pin, and that will eventually happen across the board. clearly a club that are not afraid to be first to innovate. The launch in August has been a 100% success.

"Being an early adopter of TeamCard has proven to be a worthwhile risk for BWFC. It positioned us as pioneers with a wealth of experience on this new technology so that we are well positioned to benefit from the rich data we can now extract from CRM targeting our customers accurately."
